LOCAL CITIZENS SAY "NO" TO WAR
On the cold windy day after President Obama gave his speech escalating the war in Afghanistan, a group of
local citizens took to the street to protest. Organized by Great Neck SANE/Peace Action, members of the vigil
wanted to publicly oppose the President on this issue. "We deplore the escalation of war and with it the cost
in human blood and treasure. The trillion that will go to war can best be used at home for desperately needed
domestic programs, health, jobs, housing, schools, " said Great Neck SANE Peace Action chairperson Stan Romaine.
"It is not acceptable that one life should be surrendered to defend a corrupt regime and a rag-tag
army and police force." There will be ongoing actions.

A Resolution, supported by 30 members of the Long Island clergy, was sent to 12 swing Senators on May 19th. RNC CONVENTION MARCH IN NYC: "No to the Bush Agenda!"
Sunday August 29, 2004
Here we are, prior to boarding the train to New York on Sunday morning, August 29. We joined the North Shore
contingent which began in Port Washington and grew in numbers as they reached the city. Once in the city,
we became part of the 500,000 protesters from nay parts of the country who peacefully demonstrated
against the Bush policies on the war in Irq, the environment, women's rights, cuts in services for veterans,
tax breaks for the wealth, and attacks on our civil liberties.
It was inspiring to see so many people, young and old, putting their bodies on the line to protest these issues.
Despite the heat, it was energizing.
