Peace Action General Meeting & Potluck Saturday, Jan. 16th, 5:45-8 Speaker:
State Supreme Court Justice William M. Erlbaum Staten Island Museum, 75 Stuyvesant Place (just up Wall St. from the SI Ferry) Agenda: 1) Local response to Afghan war escalation and anniversary of Iraq War; 2) Staten Island involvement in international “Ban the Bomb” activities in May in NYC; 3) State Supreme Court Justice Justice William M. Erlbaum will address issues of state-sponsored torture and the upcoming trials of Guantanamo detainees in NYC.
Justice William Erlbaum began his career as a criminal defense attorney and was appointed to Criminal Court in 1979. He has advocated for improved conditions at Riker’s Island and is involved in many humanitarian projects. He was the co-founder and served on the advisory board of the ACLU Access to Justice Project and has lectured extensively on drug abuse, DWI, housing and family court topics, criminal law, and international law.
