Peace Action - Our Roots and History
While Peace Action of New York State is a relatively new creation,
our members and activists have been hard at work to promote real
security through peace and to hold our elected officials accountable
for their positions on key foreign and domestic policy issues. Here's
a quick glance at some of our recent activities.
In
the Wake of September 11th
We are united in our sorrow and shock at the September 11 attack
upon our city. Living the the shadow of this tragedy, we wish
to affirm our sense of community, our desire for justice and our
renewed appreciation of the value of human life. In one terrible
moment of violence we have experienced what happens when those bent
on vengeance target innocent civilians. From this tragedy we are
determined to build an even better New York and a safer world.
We continue to organize to stop the bombing and to prevent
this open-ended war from spreading to other countries and regions
where more innocent civilians are bound to be injured or killed
by American bombs.
Our chapters in Brooklyn and Syracuse have worked with Arab
and Muslim American groups to ensure that the anger and fear over
horrible attacks does not translate into hate crimes or discrimination
against people of color here at home.

peace and true stability
Peace Voter
Since 1996, Peace Action chapters around New York have run growing
and increasingly successful non-partisan Peace Voter Campaigns.
Peace Voter seeks to educate citizens about the positions of the
candidates on issues ranging from the military budget to the environment
and social services. In 2000 our TV ads reached more than 2 million
New Yorkers, we held community forums in cities and towns across
the state, and we distributed nearly 200,000 voter guides from Buffalo
to Long Island. This year's election promises to more important
than ever and our Peace Voter campaign will be bigger and more effective
than ever.
