The Campaign for a New American Foreign Policy is a nationwide campaign to build public pressure for a new direction in the United States' approach to international relations. We advocate new policies, rooted in our nation's core values and designed to increase the security, not just of America, but of the world.

Our country deserves a break from the failed policies of the past.

Our arms sales and military aid programs have created widespread anti-American sentiment. Our nuclear weapons policies are encouraging runaway nuclear proliferation. Our approach to the international community is leading to growing isolationism and foreclosing meaningful US leadership. In short, our current foreign policy is taking our country, and the rest of the world, in the wrong direction.

In the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11th and in light of war with Iraq, our country needsa new approach to its relations with the rest of the world.

"Formerly admired almost universally as the preeminent champion of human rights, our country has become the foremost target of respected international organizations concerned about these basic principles of democratic life."

- Former President
Jimmy Carter

We need an approach that will lead toward greater security rather than toward endless military conflicts. The US should lead the world in stemming the spread of conventional weapons. The US should initiate a global campaign to address the threat from weapons of mass destruction, by securing and dismantling the existing stockpiles. The US should lead in cooperative efforts to address global problems, not obstruct efforts to address them.

The Campaign for a New American Foreign Policy is a long term campaign to demonstrate to Democrats and Republicans alike that the American people insist on a more constructive path for our nation. To build political pressure on members of Congress, this campaign has several specific goals.

First, organizations and local or state elected officials are asked to formally endorse the Three Point Platform of the Campaign. We will recruit hundreds of organizations and officials as endorsers. These endorsements will demonstrate on a congressional district by district basis that the American people demand a new, more positive, foreign policy.

Second, we will work to generate thousands of pieces of constituent mail to members of Congress urging them to support the goals articulated in the Three Point Platform.

And third, as more and more organizations endorse the platform and as individual constituents put pressure on their representatives in Congress, individual members of Congress will be asked to sign the Pledge for a New American Foreign Policy.

In signing the Pledge they will commit themselves to support and work for common sense, long term solutions.

We'll make our country safer by affirming our values, not abandoning them.
